I understood exactly 18% of what you said. Just what's highlighted. ;)

I can see your point, but I like the effect.

You mean the whole sig? You could add subtle lighting effects. A good way to "proffesionalise" your sig is, rather than have a plain background with one colour, you put in a gradient as the b/g. try to keep the colours similar and not too far away from each other.

Try putting a gradient of white and a seubtle cream on your curent sig. then redo the text with a light dropped shadow. a border will make it stand out as well.

oh, and before i forget, cowbell. and some ninjas.

You always need more cowbell, and ninjas are just damn cool!!

Thanks Jamms. I did mean the entire sig, not necessarily the one I'm using now. I have been working on backgrounds with different brushes and colors, but the always seem flat. I'll try out your suggestions. Thanks again.

Simple things like altering the saturation differently on each layer can create depth as can using different levels of sharpness/blur.

Manrays sig above is near perfect (apart from a little reframing) but if i had done it i would have recut the girl and sarpened her up a bit to bring more depth into it. but really muck around with light and colour schemes.

Assuming your using Photoshop, you have a few options. For your Gibson I simply used the sharpening filter. Use the Fade slider to adjust it to the intensity you want. Its easy to overdo on some photos, making fine edges rough. You can use your sharpening brush for fine detailing. Also, in the Filter>Artistic options, you can sometimes use the "plastic wrap" filter to give items a glossy or wet look. Again, adjust highlights and strengths to your taste. Use the lasso tool to define a section and manipulate it as you wish, as I did with your Gibson, refining only the body for the final detailing and leaving the fret board alone.
