You guys have to think of a theme everytime you enter. I only have to think of one when I win :p.
And because I realy liked gobacktogo's theme, I didn't even have to think of one.

By the way, my entry for this week is done :p

How come the vote says that sig 6 got more votes but its a tie?? I don't get it.

Anyway, great work to everyone this week. It came down to 6 and 7 for me, both were outstanding but i had to go for 7, it was just too good not to. It was almost like a really cool film poster.

    Abstract:

Abstract art uses a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world.[1] Western art had been, from the Renaissance up to the middle of the 19th century, underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. The arts of cultures other than the European had become accessible and showed alternative ways of describing visual experience to the artist. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a new kind of art which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. The sources from which individual artists drew their theoretical arguments were diverse, and reflected the social and intellectual preoccupations in all areas of Western culture at that time.[2]
Abstract art, nonobjective art, and nonrepresentational art, are loosely related terms. They are of similar, although perhaps not identical meaning.
Abstraction indicates a departure from reality in depiction of imagery in art. This departure from accurate representation can be only slight, or it can be partial, or it can be complete. Abstraction exists along a continuum. Even art that aims for verisimilitude of the highest degree can be said to be abstract, at least theoretically, since perfect representation is likely to be exceedingly elusive. Artwork which takes liberties, altering for instance color and form in ways that are conspicuous, can be said to be partially abstract. Total abstraction bears no trace of any reference to anything recognizable. In geometric abstraction, for instance, one is unlikely to find references to naturalistic entities. Figurative art and total abstraction are almost mutually exclusive. But figurative and representational (or realistic) art often contains partial abstraction.
Both Geometric abstraction and Lyrical Abstraction are often totally abstract. Among the very numerous art movements that embody partial abstraction would be for instance fauvism in which color is conspicuously and deliberately altered vis-a-vis reality, and cubism, which blatantly alters the forms of the real life entities depicted

Abstract can can take many forms and does not mean what we are basing this weeks theme on - "no people, no animals, no recognisable things".

Salvador Dali work is a great example of this.

I was going to mention that Aust. It can still be abstract with those things unless Bio and GB actually don't want the sigs to contain them. I'm not fussed either way. I've submitted mine already.

I was also going to choose abstract as a theme, and in it I specifically said no people ect..
So I assume GB also stated that.

Congratulations biomoid and gobacktogo. Great job on both.

I also want to thank the person who voted for my sig. It is greatly appreciated and was not expected with the "short" little screwup I made.

I know that "abstract" art is as open ended as saying "rock music", because within that broad generalization there are numerous sub-genres and sub-categories.

I just wanted to have a week of sigs where people are forced to really think outside the box and design something completley unique, without the presence of models, celebs, etc. as a source...

Some are for it and some are obviously opposed to it, but it's something I've wanted to try for a long time.

I myself hope that people get some brushes out instead of finding some stocks, and really open their mind to some creativity. Lets make this week interesting and dynamic!

I fully agree, and it's not to discredit any of the previous work that's been done. I just really hope people can really use their creative imaginations and come up with some totally out there stuff. This is where aspects of sole composition, coloring, shading, blending, etc. really take the front seat in the competition. That's why I think it'll be so much fun.

I'm having a blast myself as I already have 9 different ideas, and it's really making me want to break into my psychedelics and explore my mind a little. ;)

anyway congratulations to biomoid and gobacktogo. Sorry to say I didn't vote for any of you, hope you don't hold a grudge!

    Are you a robot? :)

I entered something this week but really struggled. I'm awful with brushes and just couldn't really think of anything decent. I think this might be the last time I compete. In all honesty, I just don't really feel inspired or motivated to make phun sigs anymore. I'll probably still carry on posting stuff in creative, including the sig display thread where there are no size limitations.

Go here for examples of Abstract. ;)

I could be wrong, and let me know if I am, but this weeks theme's definition is:

The idea here is to not use any pictures, renders, etc. Just use brushes, layers, and/or filters. It's just making a sig using Photoshop and only Photoshop.

    Samples

    Yes

    No

Here's one I made real quick:

    Hope this helps. ;)
