She was really happy to get out from under there, that's for sure. Blaze is SUPER-coordinated (border collie!), and she is just not used to things not going perfectly for her when she's in motion.

Oh, and Leo helped wake me up to tell me to help Blaze! Leo was grabbing my arm with his paw and hopping around like, "Help Blaze!"

I got him from a last chance animal rescue place....he was a year old at that time. His original owner abandoned him at the local pound as he could not control the dog. He said he had a bad biting problem, chewed everything up, uncontrollable and aggressive. He was adopted twice and brought back both times. I spent several minutes with him, several times, at the agency. I felt he would be a good dog is placed in the right environment and handled property. When I found out he was scheduled to be put down in the next day or so, I decided to take him and see what I could do. I have to admit, after the first two/three days, I began to think maybe I made a mistake. He was just so brainlessly energetic and constantly putting his mouth on my hands and lower arms. He did not bite down, but bump and rake his teeth on me. I bled a lot during those first days. But I remained firm, even toned, and consistent.....I never struck him......only hard taps on his nose when he would not let go of my hand, arm, pant cuff, jacket sleeve, etc.

I did not checking on his background......he has a major portion of Australian Cattle dog in him.....they breed those dogs to bite.....that is how the make the cows move when they done want to move. So I am fighting bred in behavior. Well, after two weeks, 80% of the "biting" stopped. Now, 99%. Plus he has grown to have confidence in us that we won't hurt him. I have seen evidence that he was hurt when his collar what grabbed.....he bit the shit out of me initially when I would reach for his collar to lead him either outside or into a different place. I worked on getting him distracted, and by rubbing his back I would work my way up to his collar to get a hold on it. He now does not resist or pull away when I reach for his collar from any direction. He has learned to sit, lie down, come, stay, "no bite", break (used to make the two dogs stop rough play). Bet you did not expect a short novel!

They're both Border Collies. I think that The BC grabbing the human's arm is pretty smart. ;)

That is a neat story.....I put mouse trap under my bed after Domenic scrunched under it......don't want him there as the air pump and air hoses are there for my air bed.......one time with the mouse traps and he is no longer interested in going there! Worked well on the kitchen counters as he used to put his feet up on the counters....not anymore! I got that trick from a book I read 40 years ago written by Weatherwax...the original lassie trainer.
