My busy day is beginning to show as my battery is beginning to run down a bit...

 

Damn computer froze. Grrr.

 

Somehow I'm still awake after 2.5 hours of sleep.

 

Sounds like they whole area has a major water supply dependability problem......

 

It can be a gamble if something goes wrong!

 

I guess any water supply is vulnerable to all the chemicals that get dumped all over the place.

 

Personally, I find that unacceptable.

 

I do too. See my comment after that one. We're playing around with a delicate system.

 

You build water treatment plants that can address the removal of impurities. The Algae generated toxins are a known entity and can be prevented or removed from the water supply rather directly. Sometimes the public has to be sufficiently inconvenienced before they will agree to get off their wallets and bond the required construction of the plants to greatly improve the reliability of their water supply. This will be interesting to see just what comes out of this most recent incident. It will happen again and it will continue to get worse unless major steps are taken to turn the matter around.

 

Generally speaking....chemical dumping is nothing today compared to what was done 50 and more years ago. So, this is not a new situation either. It all goes back to money and priorities.

 

It will require both southern Michigan's and Ohio's cooperation.

 

My brother thinks it's a reaction to more ethanol-based manufacturing and new types of waste that come from that.

I would have to see a scientific rational on that before I would agree, disagree, or say possibly...

 

The truck race this afternoon was won by Austin Dillon, grandson of Richard Childress, the owner that Earnhardt Sr. drove for, and a Chevy team. So, yes on that account. The evening race is still underway for me as I am watching a tape delay necessitated by the dog walk.

 

The crux of it is that something caused the water around the intakes to become very clear. That clearer than normal water then filled up with this super algae concentration.
